The Best Laid Plans

Between Christmas and New Years', I was on vacation.  I typically take that time of year off, for a couple of reasons.  Not the least of which is always having that week off from school (when I was attending, of course) - I got used to having it off, so I've just continued that tradition.

I was really looking forward to spending a lot of time in-game.  Well, I suppose more correctly "in-games".  Unfortunately, my body decided to belay those plans in favor of venturing to the E/R (stupid body...).  Nothing too serious, just...painful.  Diagnosis:  gallstones.  Fortunately, they decided to let me go home instead of wheeling me into an operating room.  Of course, now I'm a "ticking time bomb" (so to speak) - never knowing "when" (or even "if") a recurrence will strike.

By far, the most often treatment used is surgical removal (laparoscopically) of the gall bladder.  Not really my first choice, but other treatments are considered "experimental" and were mostly abandoned after the laparoscopic cholecystectomy was 'perfected'.  It is considered one of the most routine of surgeries.

Still not my first choice.

So, I have decided to play the "wait and see" game.  At least, for now.  I may yet get the surgery, as it is the only "guaranteed" method to eliminate gallstones once and for all.

Needless to say, my vacation was less than spectacular.
