My Least Favorite Armor

It's not a specific armor item, but a class of armor.  Well, more correctly, a 'sub-class' of armor.  I haven't seen anything like it with heavy or medium armor.  In fact, the only other 'armor' that comes close is "robes".  But then, robes are supposed to look like, well, robes.

I am specifically talking about the 'skirted' light armors*.  Some individual armors have 'ugly' colors, some have stupid 'dunsails**' on them, but none of that - none of that - is as annoying as the light armors with 'skirts'.  Oh, I suppose they look "OK" when worn by female toons, but I still much prefer the un-skirted versions.  On male toons...it just doesn't look right at all.  Maybe if they had some type of tartan on them...

Here - judge for yourself:
Pakstor Ratt in "Normal"
Light Armor (Front)
Pakstor Ratt in "Normal"
Light Armor (Back)
Pakstor Ratt in "Skirted"
Light Armor (Front)
Pakstor Ratt in "Skirted"
Light Armor (Back)
It's not a kilt, it's a skirt!

It reminds me of the dress uniforms from "Star Trek:  The Next Generation" (ST:TNG).  I think the ST:TNG costumer misunderstood:  a "dress uniform" is not a uniform that looks like an actual "dress".  (Just what every adventurer needs:  "dress" armor - for when you have that formal party being thrown by the Coin Lords to attend, but have no time to change after clearing out Water Works [Kobold still hate you].)  Oy - it's enough to drive one to drink.

Even on female toons:
Tylandi in "Silken Mail"
(Front)
Tylandi in "Silken Mail"
(Back)
Tylandi in "Normal"
Light Armor (Front)
Tylandi in "Normal"
Light Armor (Back)

The "Silken Mail" looks more like a gown than light armor.  But I will say, of all the 'skirted' light armors, I like the "Silken Mail" the best,  At least on female toons.

But besides the look, it the impracticability of it.  Ever try running in a skirt?  Especially a long one, and/or one made out of thick leather?  Being male, my answer is "no", but I have seen women try to.  "Try" being the operative word - I think I saw a snail out-pace a girl "running" in a skirt, once.  Not to mention trying to swim...in the sewers.  With a thick, heavy, leather skirt.  Ugh, the smell...and cleaning bill.

I wished they'd just get rid of them.  But at least we have cosmetic armor that can mask the look.

...if you have any cosmetic armor, that is.

* In fact, it may even be more 'specialized' than that - I'm not sure I've seen them on anything other than chainmail (except maybe mail shirts?).

** There seems to be some 'debate' as to the correct spelling.  It is most often seen as "dunsel", but I suspect that "dunsail" is the proper spelling.  Alas, I can find no definitive answer one way or the other as neither spelling appears in any dictionary I have used.  And since I cannot find a copy of the original D. C. Fontana script, I have no idea how she spelled it.
