What's in a Scream?

Like Chicken Man, it's everywhere, it's everywhere!  Odds are you've heard it, but you may not realize it.  Then again, a lot of you probably do realize it.  Of what do I refer?  Why, arguably the most famous of all multi-media screams, specifically, if not sound effects, in general:  The Wilhelm Scream.

Yes, the Wilhelm Scream can be heard in dozens (if not hundreds) of movies, TV shows, cartoons*, web-pages, and video games of all sorts, including MMOs.  A small list of some movies/TV shows you may have heard of that contain the Wilhelm Scream include:

• The entire "Star Wars" movie franchise**
• The entire "Indiana Jones" movie franchise
• The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles
• Howard the Duck
• Willow
• Batman Returns
• Aladdin
• Toy Story
• Small Soldiers
• Lethal Weapon 4
• Despicable Me
• The Lord of the Rings:  The Two Towers (and The Return of the King)
• The Hobbit:  An Unexpected Journey
• Hellboy

The list goes on.

In fact, it is even in DDO...if you know where - and when - to listen for it.  I'll give you a hint:  it's called the Wilhelm scream.

* Yes, I know cartoons are a form of TV show (and movie short).  But it deserves its own category.

** At least, the 'original' 6 episodes by George Lucas.  In fact, good ol' George puts it in just about every (if not 'every') movie or TV show he is involved with.  Guess he just really likes that scream.
